The story behind Barrie Hughes Florist

We have been working with flowers for a long time!

After I left school in the 1970s, I studied Amenity Horticulture and Nursery Practices at Pencoed College of Horticulture near Bridgend. I then went on to study Floristry at Pencoed, falling in love with the creativity behind flowers and bespoke floral designs. I founded Barrie Hughes Florist in 1980, when the perfect shop location in a local village became available and I jumped at the chance to proudly open my florist shop in Pontyberem in West Wales. I'm delighted that Barrie Hughes Florist has been hand-picked to be included in The Good Florist Guide, and members of the British Florist Association recognising the quality and service we provide as an independent local florist in Wales.

Award-winning florist established over 39 years

Since opening our doors back in 1980, we’ve been creating beautifully unique flowers for our loyal customers for all of life's occasions. It means a lot to us that we can help customers show they care with beautiful flowers - whether it’s a loved one’s birthday, a special anniversary, or simply to say thinking of you. We find flowers speak what words cannot, and it is an honour to be asked to design something that means so much to both the customer and the recipient. I’m really proud that so much of our work comes from recommendations from happy customers.

Why I love wedding flowers...

I have always loved wedding flowers; there is something so special about being involved in such a happy occasion. Getting to know the bride and groom, discover their wedding dreams and turning them in to a reality - seeing their faces when we deliver the bridal bouquet or walk in to the decorated wedding venue is amazing. Barrie Hughes Florist specialise in wedding flowers, and our brides are so happy with our work that we’ve won the Welsh National Wedding Award three years in a row.
